Startup Candy is a feature where I’d like to share news about startups, technology, and innovation.

During the Code Meet Print Meetup at the General Assembly in NYC we learned about 3 awesome startups:

URTAK is a free embeddable application for finding out what people think. This tool can help increase audience engagement with your content and easily collect user feedback.

FINDINGS makes it possible to import highlights from the books you are reading, collect text from the web, and share them with your friends.

PROJEQT is a device-neutral platform for showing creative work. This is an elegant creative storytelling platform enabling people to display content in a slideshow style. Agency TBWA led the software development and the site is written completely in HTML5. I already used it to create a pitch for a client and are happy that it runs as well on iPads and iPhones as it does on the desktop.

Her messy hair reminds me of Lisa, character played by Angelina Jolie in the 1999 movie Girl, Interrupted (based on Susanna Kaysen’s memoir) Grimes translates the feeling of anxiety by playing one note at the time-and in turn creates a mood of beautiful disorder.

I enjoyed the suspense and the visuals in her live session for In My Room presented by Yours Truly and MTV Hive.

When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things. And the reason they were able to do that was that they’ve had more experiences or they have thought more about their experiences than other people.

Unfortunately, that’s too rare a commodity. A lot of people in our industry haven’t had very diverse experiences. So they don’t have enough dots to connect, and they end up with very linear solutions without a broad perspective on the problem. The broader one’s understanding of the human experience, the better design we will have.
”

- Steve Jobs, Wired, February, 1995 (via brit)

Photo by Me. ”Mya” Sculpture by Ella Tulin

There are so many things I love about this show and this episode in particular, but right now I’d like to highlight one-Stanley.

Skins character Stanley is played by a young, very talented actor Daniel Flaherty. In this last episode Stanley plays acoustic guitar and sings to Daisy in his room, but we hear the same song, different version, towards the end of the episode.

The more polished version of the mystery song goes like “She Smells Like Flowers And Tastes Like Butter” and the artist is still Daniel Flaherty. What is the title of the song? Where can I find it? My mission tonight was to find this song.

In my crazed online search I found out something so delicious, Danny is indeed a singer/songwriter. You can listen to his music here.

Thank You MTV for taking a chance on this show, it was the smartest decision you have made in a while. I am proud to say that I am a fan of your network again.

Deep inside I am still the hopeful seventeen year old version of myself, even after some brutal years of living in New York City. And the music in this show, along with the story, and perfectly delivered lines transport me right back to the carefree state of mind, where ideas bloomed and every day was an adventure.

My childlike enthusiasm is revived and I am bursting with creativity.

Prediction, in the next season of Skins, Stanley is going to have some serious stage time.
